Orissa Persecution

Gospel for Asia missionary Ojas Ganj can only see out of one eye today. On February 19, four anti-Christian extremists beat him severely, inflicting multiple wounds including an eye injury. This was the second time fanatics attacked him this year, both times in his village in Orissa, India. For the past two years, Orissa has been India’s most dangerous state for Christians.

A Christian named Hruday Nayak was killed by anti-Christian fanatics two days ago,” wrote GFA’s correspondent in the area. “The “persecution in Orissa is still prevailing, and the Christians are not safe even today.”

Please pray for our brother and sisters in India and for the Lord to continue granting faith and repentance to those who walk in darkness!

God Resists the Proud

“Do not flatter yourselves of being good enough, because you are morally so; because you go to church, say a prayer, or take sacraments, therefore you think no more is required.  Alas, you are deceiving your own souls; and if God, in His free grace and mercy, does not show you your error, it will only be leading you a softer way to your eternal ruin.  But God forbid that any of you, to whom I am now speaking, should imagine this; no, you must be abased, and God must be exalted, or you will never begin at the right end. You will never see Jesus with comfort or satisfaction, unless you go to Him only on the account of what He has done and suffered.”

- George Whitfield (1714-1769) from “The Folly and Danger of Parting With Christ”

He Saved Me

Are you trusting in yourself, in going to church, in good deeds or in giving to charity as a means to merit salvation before God?  If you are, did you know that Scripture says that these deeds are like filthy rags to God? (Isa. 64:6) God requires absolute perfection to enter heaven and only His righteousness will do. Do you have His righteousness? Please take a moment to listen to this outstanding video testimony of a young woman who was lost in the Roman Catholic teachings and then was saved by God through the full Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Soli Deo Gloria!

10 Indictments Against the American Church

Every Christian, especially evangelical pastors, should listen carefully to this sermon. Brother Washer speaks the truth in this passionate call for the American church to wake up.  What a wonderful sermon to take the time to watch on this Reformation Day.

I’ve heard people complain that this sermon is too long. Tally up the time we spend in front of a movie screen or television set and then compare that to the time we give to God in hearing the preaching of His living Word.

The Idolatry of “Decisional” Evangelism and the American Church

Paul Washer, speaking at the Deeper Conference last weekend, proclaims the truth of the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  In this message, he speaks on the condition of the evangelical church today and how far we have fallen in how we handle the gospel and the idolatry of decisional evangelism.  This is an excellent message in typical Washer fire and is one that every single pastor in America should hear carefully.  This goes along well with an article I posted a few weeks ago on the “Serious Error of Decisional Evangelism“.

Returning the Gospel Focus

How can we preach the Gospel to a man with an empty stomach?

A man’s stomach has nothing to do with his heart’s condition of being a rebel against the holy God. A rich American on Fifth Avenue in New York City or a poor beggar on the streets of Bombay are both rebels against God Almighty, according to the Bible. The result of this lie is the fact that, during the past 100 years, the majority of mission money has been invested in social work. I am not saying we should not care for the poor and needy. The issue I am taking to task is losing our primary focus of preaching the Gospel.  - K.P. Yohannan (Gospel for Asia)

Well said Mr. Yohannan!  When will the church in America wake up and return to the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the focus?  The church today needs to step away from humanism and return to the gospel!  I have heard way too many stories of churches sending out “mission trips” only to return with photos of tours, playing games and befriending folks all-the-while never telling them the gospel.  This is not missionary work.  Missionary work is gospel centered with serving the natural by-product of the proclamation of truth.

The Serious Error of Decisional Evangelism

The more I study God’s word and the more I seek to know Him more, the more I am so burdened for the church in America.  We have become so man centered and so activity focused in our churches that we have all but left the glorious gospel of God behind or set the gospel up on a shelf for all to admire from a distance only to be shadowed by “bigger and more important things.”

Over twenty years ago I went through the motions of repeating a prayer from a pastor as I walked a long isle.  Like a magic mantra, I repeated the words of my preacher, was baptized shortly after, and was told subsequently that I was saved.  I had no understanding of sin, repentance, the holiness of God, the justice of God or my condition as a sinner.  I was told to simply repeat a prayer.  While it was an emotional experience it was not one that was wrought by the Spirit of God through repentance and faith.  I am so grateful that my God did later save me.  He transformed by heart of stone to a heart of flesh and my faith is not in a decision.  My faith is not even in my faith.  My faith is an ongoing faith in the person and work of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  And that faith is a precious gift from my God – the God that for most of my life I lived in horrendous rebellion.  Despite that hellish rebellion, He saved me.  That my friend is amazing grace.

Extremists Launch Attacks Against Christians in Second Indian State

From Gospel for Asia:

India is in a scary situation,” says Gospel for Asia President K.P. Yohannan. “While violence continues in Orissa, on India’s east coast, anti-Christian extremists have unleashed another wave of attacks on Christians in Karnataka, a state on India’s west coast.

“At the same time, churches are under attack in Jharkand and other states, and Muslim extremists have set off bombs in Delhi.

“But we know that, in the end, the future is bright, because Jesus is with His church.”

On Sunday, Hindu mobs rushed into churches and prayer centers of many different denominations in Karnataka, attacking Christians during their times of worship. The extremists then destroyed the church buildings and their properties. At least 11 churches were destroyed, including at least one led by Gospel for Asia missionaries.

Christians responded with protest rallies, and more than 60 extremists have been detained by authorities as a result of Sunday’s attacks.

“What we saw in Orissa was a well thought-out and detailed agenda to eradicate Christians from the state,” said Dr. Yohannan. “As you can see, the same pattern is being followed in Karnataka. It is well planned and orchestrated by Hindu radicals.”
