My name is Jay Wingard and this is my place on the net to discuss theology, faith and the Bible. I am first and foremost a follower of Jesus Christ.  I love theology and teach Bible and theology at church and a few Bible classes throughout the week. My interest is also in Biblical languages – to dig deep into the living Word of God. Lord willing, I aspire one day to teach theology at a Bible college or seminary but I am equally happy to simply teach where ever He has me be. I am married to the most wonderful woman I could ever ask for who supports me in all of my dreams. (And puts up with me on a daily basis. Phew!)

I love Jesus and have been saved from God’s wrath only by His sovereign grace. I find myself wanting to find more and more ways to tell others about Christ and feel this blog may just be one of them. As a reformed Baptist, I hold to the 1689 London Baptist Confession.

My King saved me – a wretched sinner by His grace. For over 20 years of my life I walked around thinking I was saved because I repeated a prayer and was baptized. You see, I was putting my faith in something I was doing, not in Christ and His finished work. For more than twenty years I was as lost as ever.  My God then graciously transformed my heart of stone to a heart of flesh and opened my eyes to His glory. By His sovereign grace, my eyes were opened to my utter sinfulness and my hopelessness on my own.  Through the gift of faith and repentance I trust only in the person and work of Christ for my salvation and now belong to Him. I desire to be conformed more and more into the image of Jesus Christ and desire to know Him more and more and to make Him known!  This I owe completely to my God and Savior Jesus Christ!  What amazing grace!

My passion is for the full Gospel of Jesus Christ. I believe that the Gospel message in the American Church today has become watered down and additionally, has been turned into a gospel of prosperity, success and self-help.  I firmly believe that my mission field is the American Church. I know all too well and too personally the by-product of the watered down gospel also termed “decisional evangelism”!  We need to stay true to the full Gospel message – one of faith and repentance, one of law to the proud and grace to the humble, one of Christ alone, one of the full counsel of Scripture and one of all the glorious attributes of God so that we are not preaching an idol instead of the God of Scripture.

“I believe that one reason why the church of God at this present moment has so little influence over the world is because the world has so much influence over the church. “  – Charles Spurgeon

Your mission field is one of the hardest. This blessed prosperous nation has turned from God and you are correct that most congregations know nothing of the Holy Spirit and the real reason they should be attending worship with fellow believers on Sunday. Thank you for your efforts, they have been a blessing to me.

    For His service, Tim

Thanks so much Tim! I agree with you that the American church is quite the mission field but how wonderful to know that nothing is more powerful than our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. His Church is safe and secure and nothing can tear down the Church Invisible! Amen!

    Hello Jay –

You and I share the same concern as regards the church in America. I often wonder if, when Jesus considers the church in post-Christian America he sees Laodicea version 2.0?

Praying for you and praying for a return to serious Bible study in the church.

(note: for the reader who follows and is wondering what I’m driving at, read Revelation 3, starting at verse 14, the letter from Jesus to the church in Laodicea.)

Yep.. lukewarm does seem to be the temperature of most of the visible church today! Thanks for your comments and press on!
