The Power of the Cross

walk-willow0021Oh, to see the dawn Of the darkest day; Christ on the road to Calvary. Tried by sinful men, torn and beaten, then nailed to a cross of wood. This, the pow’r of the cross: Christ became sin for us; took the blame, bore the wrath— we stand forgiven at the cross. Oh, to see the pain written on Your face, bearing the awesome weight of sin. Ev’ry bitter thought, ev’ry evil deed crowning Your bloodstained brow.

This, the pow’r of the cross: Christ became sin for us; took the blame, bore the wrath— we stand forgiven at the cross.

Now the daylight flees; now the ground beneath quakes as its Maker bows His head. Curtain torn in two, dead are raised to life; ”Finished!” the vict’ry cry.

This, the pow’r of the cross: Christ became sin for us; took the blame, bore the wrath— we stand forgiven at the cross.

Oh, to see my name written in the wounds, For through Your suffering I am free. Death is crushed to death; Life is mine to live, Won through Your selfless love.

This, the pow’r of the cross: Son of God—slain for us. What a love! What a cost! We stand forgiven at the cross.

Yes I share the awesome reality of the cross. However did anyone think that it was OUR own violence that placed him there???

Jesus is YHWH in the flesh.showing forever that our God is completely free from any violence. God is Love. God is Light. So says the scriptures. No need for any self-rightousness. Do you believe this??
    Peace,

    What an amazing song,
I dont want to be to theological and nit picky but it was God who placed Jesus on the cross, not our ‘own violence’. It was Gods plan of salvation, Gods decision, and Gods choice, before our sin had even existed God had decided that Jesus would die on the cross, (yes as a response to our sin), and in the garden of Gethsemane it was again God who convicted Jesus to go to his death.
So its not just us, its more God, but probably a combination of the two as God planned knew both the sin and death were going to happen.

What I love about this song is that it is pure gospel.

Amen to that brother! It is rare to hear modern day Christian music that is filled with the truths of Scripture. I pray that more modern day hymn writers like the Townends will be raised up to proclaim His glory through song!

    Dear Charlene,

I am delighted to read your message about the power of Cross. “Jesus is YHWH”. Yes, I am what I am as God the the Father Almighty told Moses. Jesus is also He is What He is and there is no room to compare with anyone in the world. He allowed us to be like him through His Blood.
