The Advent Conspiracy

November 30th, 2007

Christmas in America is nothing more than consumerism and a wasting of money on gifts to citizen’s of a country that should be called DisneyLand instead of America.  This year, encourage your church, your family and your friends to take part in “The Advent Conspiracy”.

The Advent Conspiracy is an international movement restoring the scandal of Christmas by worshipping Jesus through compassion, not consumption. Christ tends to get overlooked at Christmas. Let’s be honest. December comes and you think, “OK, this is the year.” This time you’ll swear you’ll slow down and take it all in. Make the most with family. Help the needy. Zero in on what it really means to be a Christ follower during this holy season.

So what are you waiting on… head on over to the Advent Conspiracy’s web site and get started!

Merry Christmas!

I went to Christmas Express next to Books-a-Million despite my better judgment. I needed wrapping paper and quickly got it and got out of there, almost feeling nauseous from all the kitsch and the manger scene yard ornament. A good friend who is a Christian optimist advised me to see the joy of the season even though it has been commercialized. Still my first thought went to a Rich Mullins’ song “Quoting Deuteronomy to the Devil” with the lines “There’s a coming of glory; there’s a coming of wrath; there’s so many things a-coming, Lord, they’re coming to pass….” In light of what’s to come the admonishment to keep our focus on Christ is even more needed.
