The Steel Cross: Reflecting on 9/11
John Piper has put together an outstanding document on reflecting on the calamity of September 11, 2001 as we reflect on the sixth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our nation.
He begins:
“The abundance of suffering in the world is plain from the experience of man and from the Word of God. And at the center of suffering is the cross of Christ - both in New York and in the Bible. On September 11 last year, 2,823 people died in the collapse of the World Trade Towers. And on that day at least 35,000 people died of starvation. Eight months earlier near Bhuj, India, 20,005 people died in the deadliest earthquake of 2001.”
As Christians we are surrounded by those who ask the question “why is there suffering”? Head on over to Desiring God to read John Piper’s response…

have you fought someone who would not quit or be defeated, such is the united states. we remember the great speech of churchill, never give up, just three words. i remember going to see the fight between ali and foreman, ali came for the long haul and foreman came for a four rounder. foreman was undefeatable at the time. ali was willing to take much punishment for a while til foreman tired, he knew he couldnt stand up to foreman and fight in his style, ali had the strategy that we must take to win. heros are not giants, larger, stronger, but they are able to last 5 minutes longer than the others, they will not quit. the steel was carried to new orleans to build a ship to fight terroism. there katrina attacked but the navy kept at the task with no quit in mind, now the ship now sails for freedom fighting terrorism. for those determined to do right the devil seems to have a planning committee, yet how disguisted he must be to fight a loosing battle. stay on course- thanks barron pilgrim.
